About this Regional Teaching Course
III-rd Regional Teaching Course of the European Federation of Neurological Societies

From May 27-29, 2010 a regional teaching course of the European Federation of Neurological Societies was held in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. This was already the third EFNS course organized in Chisinau. The first two took place in 2001 and 2003.
The main topics discussed during the course were multiple sclerosis and related disorders, peripheral neuropathies and headache. Nine invited speakers: Zdenek Ambler (Pilsen, Czech Republic), Michael Donaghy (Oxford, United Kingdom), Dana Horakova (Prague, Czech Republic), Jürg Kesselring (Valens, Switzerland), Detlef Kömpf (Lübeck, Germany), Michel Lanteri-Minet (Nice, France), Dominique Valade (Paris, France), Jean-Michel Vallat (Limoges, France), and David Vodušek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) shared their knowledge and experience with 150 local participants. The course was attended as well by participants from Romania and Belarus. 3 lectures were given by Moldovan professors: Mihail Gavriliuc, Vitalie Lisnic and Ion Moldovanu. Dr. Edina Varga from Dianalund, Denmark spoke about the present and future of the European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees.
The course took place in the Senate hall of the State Medical and Pharmaceutical University “Nicolae Testemitanu” from Chisinau. The quality of the course was highly appreciated by the participants. All of them successfully passed the post course exam. The local organizing committee, guided by academician Diomid Gherman tried to do their best to meet the interests and needs of the participants and speakers.
The EFNS Management Committee represented by Ms. Elisabeth Müller, Executive Director, Detlef Kömpf, Secretary General, and David Vodušek, treasurer, participated in a press conference where the education, scientific and practical value of the course for Moldovan physicians was underlined.
Mutual discussions between the professors and participants continued during the social events organized at the Wine House, placed in a picturesque park on the territory of the National Exhibition Center “Moldexpo” and famous winery “Milestii Mici”, which is considered by the largest cellar complex in the world by the Guinness book of records, being situated deep under the ground. The day following the course a trip to the medieval city Old Orhei was organized.
The overall impression of the course mentioned by the participants was very good, perfect, excellent.
